Clean, Lean, & Mean!
At Metric Mechanic advanced porting techniques have always played a
major roll in our performance engines. Porting improves power and flexibility
by increasing the ability of the engine to take in more intake charge
at any rpm level, as opposed to a radical cam, which hurts breathing
at low rpm but increases at higher rpm. The hot cam approach to breathing
kills idle and low speed running - not to mention emissions and economy.
Our porting techniques keep air velocity high by reshaping, not hogging
out ports, to maintain bottom end and mid-range torque.
In August of 1988, Metric Mechanic added Surface Turbulence to its
HiFlo ST/Sport head. This patented process was incorporated into our
head to reduce emissions and increase fuel economy. It has also made
our engines run smoother and easier to tune. Surface turbulence makes
up the lean and clean part of our engine philosophy.
More recently we have redesigned our sport cam. It is a dual profile
asymmetrical design. It was designed for power, emissions, and economy.
Its duration is only 275° duration but don't let this fool you about
its power output. There is a lot of area added under the cam curve where
it counts. This cam departs from traditional cam thinking and we feel
it represents the future in performance cams for emission engines.
