Core Refunds |
| If a core is returned within 120 days
of shipment from Metric Mechanic, Metric Mechanic will refund 100%
of the shipping crate and the accepted value we place on the
core. After 120 days and up to 180 days, core value drops to 80%. After
180 days, core transactions are removed from our records and we secure
your deposit. |

Shipping Information |
All pricing is F.O.B. Metric Mechanic, Inc. Shipping
and Handling charges will be added to all invoices. Shipping up to 70lbs.
is normally done with UPS. UPS provides ground service taking from 3-6
days,
second day air service, or next day air service.
Shipments over 70lbs. go ground by truck such as RPS,
or air service by companies such as, Pilot Air, Burlington Air, or Federal
Express. Please consult us with your shipping concerns. We can provide
help or make the shipping arrangements for you. Rush orders
will be shipped same day, provided we have the item in stock
and receive the order in time to process it. In addition to the regular
shipping and handling charge, a surcharge of $10.00 will be added for
this service. Specific information for shipping and warranties on engines,
transmissions, and differentials
can be found below. |

When receiving your package, inspect the carton for handling abuse in
the presence of the delivery carrier whenever possible (damage claims
must be made to the carrier).

Voiding Warranty
We do not cover abuse incurred to the engine due to racing, over heating,
improper break-in, fuel wash down, poor tuning, physical damage, etc.
Restrictions
Our warranty is restricted to the product only, as it leaves Metric
Mechanic, Inc. It DOES NOT cover any costs incurred after that; such
as installation, teardowns, tuning, shipping and handling charges, towing,
car rentals, motels, etc. During the warranty period, if you need to
have the engine replaced, we will hold the cost of a replacement engine
on a credit card authorization. We will exert every effort to expedite
warranty matters and make things as pleasant as possible. If you have
the unfortunate and rare experience of a warranty claim, we will understandably
be very curious as to what happened - but this won't interfere with
our commitment to be fair minded.

Turn Around Time
- Fast
You don't have to send us your old core first! In an emergency (only
car is down, stranded on a trip, etc.) and depending on the time of
day that you call, we often can have a transmission to you or your
shop in two days or sometimes only one day. An additional
$100.00 will be added to the price of the transmission for this service.
If you have special circumstances, call us, we can usually accommodate
your schedule. An advantage to us shipping to you first is that you
can return your core in our box.
- Normal
Normally, a COD ground shipment can be made in five to seven days.
If you send your core to be rebuilt specifically, allow eight
to ten days.
Shipping
After removing your transmission: drain the oil, remove all the clutch
and shifter parts, wrap it in two garbage bags, and "float"
it in packing material (newspaper, etc.) in a cardboard box. We recommend
a two-ply cardboard box (similar to a television box). We will gladly
ship a box to you if you have difficulty locating one. All 4-speeds
and 4 cylinder 5-speeds can be shipped through UPS (70 lbs. limit).
The quickest and least expensive way to ship 6 cylinder 5-speeds is
by bus (Greyhound). If you are shipping from a shop or business, RPS
(Roadway Package System) ground service will take up to 100 lbs.
5 Year Limited Warranty
"Ultimate Transmissions" are warranted against bearing and
synchronizer failure for a five year period.
Limited warranty excludes any transmission failure(s) due to:
- External damage to the gearbox
- Damage resulting from contaminated gear lube
- Not maintaining proper lube level
- Internal damage resulting from collision
- Damage proximately caused by unauthorized disassembly
- Gross abuse
- Cases of broken gear teeth
- Bent shift mechanisms.
In 30+ years, we've only once voided a customer's warranty after determining
severe maltreatment.
This warranty is restricted to the product itself as it was shipped
and DOES NOT cover any costs incurred after that, such
as installation, teardowns, shipping, handling charges, towing, car
rentals, motels, etc.

Ordering & Shipping
Refer to the ordering and shipping information under the transmission
section. 2 Year Conditional Warranty
We do not warranty spider gears or ring and pinion gear damage. Spider
gear damage is usually caused by one of the rear wheels spinning up
faster than the other and a broken spider gear can in turn damage the
ring and pinion bearings. This warranty does not cover any cost
incurred after the product leaves Metric Mechanic such as installation,
teardowns, shipping, handling charges, towing, car rentals, motels,
etc.

| Ordering |
The following is our procedure for filling an engine
order.
- After a customer has read over our catalog and mailer information,
they'll usually call us to discuss their engine needs.
- Once you decide you want an engine, call us and then we will write
up a pre-order. This pre-order does two things:
- It helps the engine builder and head porters know what jobs
are coming in so they can get your parts ready.
- This pre-order is an indication to the office people that payment
for the engine is being forwarded by certified payment (money
order, certified check, etc.) or credit card (Visa, Master Card,
or American Express). Sorry, we do not take personal or company
checks.
- Once payment is received, it becomes the starting date of the job.
An engine usually takes 2 1/2 to 3 weeks to complete. If you have
an emergency situation, we will make an effort to adjust this time
to your needs. All engines are built on customer order on an exchange
basis and rarely do we have engines sitting on the shelf.
- On occasion, a customer wants his original engine rebuilt in order
to maintain his engine ID number. We have no problem with this, but
it will cost you an additional $300.00 for a 4 cylinder engine and
$400.00 for a 6 cylinder engine plus the cost of sending a shipping
crate an extra round trip. Doing one engine at a time disrupts our
rebuilding process. We know that ID numbers can be important; but,
you may want to weigh these factors. To most people who may someday
consider buying your car, what they want to know is, "Does your
BMW have a Metric Mechanic engine?"
Shipping
Shipping is usually done by truck and it takes about 4 to 5 working
days to get to the east or west coasts. Usually we arrange shipping
for you. This eliminates one less hassle you have to deal with and can
get you a much better shipping rate. Shipping is about $250-300 round
trip to the east or west coast and this charge is usually subtracted
off your core deposits (engine and shipping crate).
Crate
To protect the engine from damage, we ship it in a custom built steel
tube frame. This crate also doubles as a convenient way for you to return
your engine core back to us.
Installation
Needless to say, we're very experienced at installing our own engines
and we feel we've got the tuning procedure down pat. So, if you're considering
having us do the installation, we need to firm up the order and the
date at least one month in advance. It's the only way we can insure
having everything ready when you arrive. We require payment in advance
for the engine (and or transmission) by Certified Check, Visa, MasterCard
or American Express.
Installation charges and additional labor and parts are usually paid
for when the car is picked up. Again, the final payment needs to be
a Certified Check or Credit Card. No personal checks please. If you're
waiting on the installation in Richland, expect it to take about 3 days.
Usually, our customers are leaving by the morning of the 4th day.
Often, if a customer is having a lot of work done, they'll elect to
leave their car with us for about 2 weeks, usually booking a round trip
flight in advance. We can also arrange for a carrier service to deliver
your car for you. Call for details. Installation involves a lot of cleaning
and painting. Most of the nuts, bolts and hardware are exchanged for
plated (zinc gold) hardware. We also spend a fair amount of time in
tuning the engine (Fuel Injection and Ignition) and do the initial break-in
which involves putting at least 50 miles on the engine to make sure
it's running correctly.
